Filkins, Colbert & Associates, Inc. was founded in 1973 with a simple mission: provide trusted insurance guidance to families and businesses in Georgia.

What began as a door-to-door life insurance operation has grown into a full-service independent insurance agency—serving generations with personal and commercial coverage.

A Family Legacy
Our story begins in 1965 when Robert Filkins Jr. moved his young family from Hartford, Connecticut to Marietta, Georgia to work as a draftsman for Lockheed during the Vietnam War.

After the war, Bob transitioned to insurance, joining Travelers Insurance Company in 1970. In 1973, he founded Filkins & Associates. Two years later, Joe Colbert came aboard, and the agency became Filkins, Colbert & Associates, Inc. While Joe exited the industry in 1979, the name remained.

In 1981, Bob’s son, Robert Filkins III (“Bobby”), joined the agency at just 17. While working at the agency, he earned a degree in Risk Management & Insurance—starting at the University of Georgia and graduating from Georgia State University in 1986. Under Bob and Bobby’s leadership, the agency expanded its services to include a full range of personal and business insurance solutions.

When Bob retired in 2000, Bobby purchased the agency and continued to grow the business with a focus on integrity, family, and service.

The Next Generation

Today, Filkins, Colbert & Associates continues as a proud family-run agency. Bradley Filkins, the third generation, now works alongside his father.

Bradley earned his degree in Risk Management and Insurance from Georgia State University while working at the agency. He later gained valuable industry experience as a commercial underwriter specializing in construction-related accounts before returning to the family business.
